Introduction Konkola Mine Hospital (KMH) is located in the mining town of Chililabombwe Chililabombwe is located in the Copperbelt province of Zambia, lying very close to the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and approximately 500km North of Lusaka. It is a typical mining town and is home to the Konkola Deep Mine Project, one of the biggest mining projects in Zambia in recent years. The town has a population of over 55,000 (2000 census) with most of the socio-economic activity related to the mines in one way or the other.

About the Hospital Konkola Mine Hospital is run by Konkola Copper Mines Ltd. It can very easily boast to be one of the more well equipped hospitals in Zambia and rightly so. This is probably as a result of its recent refurbishment in readiness for the construction of the Konkola Deep Mine Project. It has a bed capacity of 344 but currently operating only about 100 beds. It has most standard modern equipment including Haematological, Biochemistry and Immunology analysers, blood gas analysers and a digital xray unit complete with image intensifiers. It is also one of only three institutions in the country that has its own modern TB culture machine (the other two being Tropical Diseases Research Centre in Ndola and the TB national Centre in Lusaka). And is the only other institution in the country that has a modern Haemodiaylisis unit (the other being UTH)
The hospital is also reviving the Trauma centre
